1) There are two levels of competition: MASTER or PROFESSIONAL.
MASTERS: The highest level of excellence is expected.
Mounts should exhibit
The finest of details throughout. Multiple ribbons are awarded.
PROFESSIONAL: Mounts should be mechanically sound, technically
correct and
exhibit the craftsmanship of a professional taxidermist. Multiple
ribbons awarded.
(NOTE) Once you have received TWO Blue ribbons or a “Best
of Category” at the
Professional level in a category, you MUST advance to the Master level
in that category.
2) Ribbons awarded as follows. Our own NDTA score sheet will
be used.
MASTERS: 1st place 90-100
PROFESSIONAL: 1st place 90-100
2nd place 80-89
2nd place 80-89
3rd place 70-79
3rd place 70-79
Honorable Mention 65-69
3) Categories include: Whitetail Deer Head; Other Game
heads; Large Mammal;
Small Mammal; Birds; Fish;
Wall Mount Fish; Reptiles; Reproductions.
4) Any mount or part of any mount (excluding horns or
antlers) entered in the
NDTA competition can not have
been entered into any previous NDTA
competition where qualified
judges were used.
5) No freeze dry mounts. Grasses, plants and other
small creatures used to
enhance habitats are allowed.
Turkey heads may be freeze dried and used but
must be painted by the competitor.
Freeze drying may not be used as an aid
to prevent shrinkage on competition
entries, other than the exceptions listed
above.
6) All entries must be completed by the competitor unassisted.
7) Protected species must be accompanied by the proper
permits through the
show.
8) Distasteful entries will not be allowed. If
questionable, the competition
committee will decide and their
decision will be final. No mounts depicting
cruelty by man allowed.
9) The decision of the judges on each entry is final.
Discourteous behavior toward
judges, competition committee
or show officials will not be tolerated.
10) Entries in cases must have removable tops and sides to
allow for judging.

the judging is completed.
11) After the judging is completed, business cards may be placed
next to entry.
12) No competitor will be allowed in the competition area while
judging is being
done except for the Competition
Committee members.
13) An entry must receive a numerical score of 90 or
better in order to receive a
Best of Category
ribbon.
14) The Best All Around Taxidermist must be an NDTA member
in good standings,
must have the highest
combined score of four entries, one in each of the
following categories:
game head, mammal, bird and 360 degree fish (no wall
mount fish).
If two or less individuals are competing for this award, a
combined score
of 350 is required to obtain this award. ALL entries for this
award must be from
the Master’s Division.
15) The young of a species will be judged in the
same category as the mature
adult of
same species is judged.
16) Novelties may be entered but will not be considered
for any of the competitive
categories.
17) Half-life size entries will be judged as a
game head. However, extra points
May be given for
good work on legs.
18) Taxidermists 18 years of age or older may not be
included in a family
Membership.
19) Non-residents must have a NDTA membership to be eligible
to compete
in this competition.
20) There is no group mount category. So if you
have more than one
specimen on an
entry and you would like them all judged, you must
pay entry fee for
each specimen.
21) Every precaution will be taken to secure your entries
but under NO
circumstances will
the NDTA, it’s officers or board members be held
responsible.
22) Anyone found in violation of rules will be subject
to lose any and all awards.
There will be no refund
of registration or entry fee or memberships.
